College of the Desert – Indio, CA
Clearinghouse CDFI (CCDFI) provided a $12 million in NMTC funds to assist College of the Desert in expanding educational opportunities in Indio, California. This funding supports the construction and renovation of campus facilities aimed at enhancing connectivity and student engagement.
The project includes the development of a new 67,000-square-foot, three-story education center and the renovation of 10,000 square feet of existing campus space. The improvements integrate with the $25 million Indio Childcare Center and School, currently underway, creating a more cohesive campus environment. Financing provided by CCDFI helps improve education accessibility for low-income communities, impacting about 10,000 clients, most of whom are minorities from low-income backgrounds.
College of the Desert is committed to inclusivity, student-centeredness, and community responsiveness. Serves 10,000 clients, with 90% Low-Income clients and 80% minority clients served through the College of the Desert. Also, this project will create and retain 80 permanent jobs and 618 construction jobs (93% accessible to Low-Income and people with the skill level at or equivalent to a high school education). All jobs will provide benefits and training.
Expands educational opportunities through the development and construction of a new education center and outdoor space improvement.
