What Is a
Certified B Corporation ?

Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet standards for social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency established by B Lab, the nonprofit organization behind the certification. Unlike certifications that focus on a particular product or service, B Corp certification evaluates an organization as a whole and considers how its operations align with established standards.

The certification is designed to promote continuous improvement while providing greater transparency about how a company conducts business. Certified companies periodically recertify and demonstrate continued alignment with evolving standards.

Why It Matters to Us

Since 1996, Clearinghouse CDFI has worked to expand access to responsible financing for commercial real estate-based projects and businesses that strengthen communities. The principles reflected in B Corp certification are consistent with the approach that has guided our organization from the beginning.

For us, certification reflects practices that have long been part of how we do business. It provides an additional layer of accountability and reinforces our commitment to operating with transparency while pursuing our mission.

I am passionate about streamlining processes, implementing innovative solutions, and finding smarter ways to be responsible stewards of our resources and our team’s valuable time. In this new role, I look forward to guiding our organization through the integration of B Corp Standards 2.0. The new standards will help us deepen our impact, strengthen our sustainability practices, and ensure we continue building thriving futures for the communities we serve.

I’m thrilled to share that Senchel Woolfolk has agreed to step into a new leadership role as our Chairperson for the B Corps initiative, effective 1 May 2026. Senchel brings a powerful mix of innovative program design, research, and collective impact experience, along with a strong grounding in the social determinants of health. Her work spans regional planning, social enterprise development, leadership development, mental health services, and authentic community engagement which is exactly the kind of integrated perspective we need as we navigate the evolution of B Corp.

As we adapt to these changes, Senchel will help us interpret the new standards, guide our internal working groups, and ensure that our approach to B Corps is not just about compliance, but about living our values in a deeper and more integrated way. I’m excited to see how her leadership will help us strengthen our impact, our culture, and our voice in the broader B Corp community.

Certification and Accountability

Maintaining Certified B Corporation status requires ongoing evaluation and periodic recertification. The process encourages organizations to regularly assess their practices, measure progress over time, and identify opportunities for improvement.

At Clearinghouse CDFI, accountability extends beyond certification. We publish information about our performance, impact, and organizational initiatives so borrowers, investors, partners, and the public can better understand our work and the outcomes we seek to achieve.
