Ribbon Cutting Marks Beginning of Major Revitalization at Friendly Village MHP in Long Beach
A new chapter has begun for nonprofit ACI Friendly Village on Friday, August 14, 2026, as community partners, residents, and local leaders gathered to celebrate the start of a major revitalization project that will preserve affordable housing for generations to come. The ribbon-cutting ceremony at Friendly Village MHP marks the beginning of construction on critical infrastructure improvements designed to strengthen one of Long Beach’s largest affordable housing communities and enhance daily life for the 182 families who call it home.
Clearinghouse CDFI has been proud to support this milestone from the beginning. In 2021, we provided $11.175 million in financing that enabled ACI Friendly Village to purchase the community, located at 5450 N. Paramount Blvd in Long Beach, CA. That financing preserved the community’s long-term affordability while laying the foundation for the infrastructure improvements now underway. While the acquisition secured the future of the property, it also came with a clear understanding that significant infrastructure improvements would eventually be needed. Built in the 1970s on land formerly used as a municipal landfill, the community has experienced decades of ground compaction issues and aging utility systems that required substantial investment to address.
That opportunity came in 2023 with the launch of the California Department of Housing and Community Development’s (HCD) Manufactured Housing Opportunity & Revitalization (MORE) program. ACI Friendly Village worked closely with engineering and construction partners to develop a comprehensive rehabilitation plan, ultimately securing more than $11 million in state funding from HCD. The project will replace the community’s aging water, sewer, electrical, and gas systems while completing additional improvements that will enhance the long-term value of residents’ homes.
The August 14 ribbon-cutting marked the start of construction after years of collaboration among partners committed to preserving affordable housing. Once complete, the revitalization will help ensure families living at Friendly Village MHP continue to have access to a safe, stable, and affordable place to call home.
