San Francisco’s Aquarium of the Bay is home to over 24,000 diverse aquatic animals.

Aquarium of the Bay

San Francisco’s Aquarium of the Bay is a public aquarium located on Pier 39 in the historic Fisherman’s Wharf District. Home to over 24,000 diverse aquatic animals, the aquarium has awed millions of visitors for over 20 years.

Clearinghouse CDFI provided a $5.5 million loan for the Aquarium of the Bay to refinance existing debt and fund operations. This includes payroll, animal care, and needed supplies.

Clearinghouse CDFI previously provided $1 million in financing through its COVID-19 Emergency Loan Fund for the aquarium to meet its working capital needs.

“23 weeks of shelter-in-place, has been devastating for our non-profit aquarium. With revenue streams choked off, we still have to care for 24,000 live animals and operate shifts to maintain life support systems and allied protocols. CCDFI has been extraordinary for us at a time when it was needed the most. The teamwork, the commitment, and the compassion for our mission, has been heartwarming, to say the very least.”
