$1.5M in Financing Supports New Mexico Charter School for Nontraditional High School Students

Gilbert L. Sena Charter High School – Albuquerque, NM

Clearinghouse CDFI provided $1,500,000 in financing for Charter Schools Development Corporation (CSDC). This provides turnkey development services to Gilbert L. Sena Charter High School, allowing them to enter into a state-approved Lease Purchase Agreement with CSDC and establish a long-term plan to own the school property.

Gilbert L. Sena Charter High School helps nontraditional high school students develop skills necessary for future success. Students are encouraged to declare one of three career pathways in their first year at the school. They then follow a course of study reflecting their choice. Students benefit from small, personalized learning environments offering individualized help and instruction.

CSDC is a non-profit corporation and CDFI working to support quality choices for underserved students. By developing and financing affordable charter schools nationwide, CSDC supports the charter school mission of systemic reform and improving the traditional public school standard.

Gilbert Sena High School (“GSHS”) exists to help nontraditional students develop skills necessary for personal, social, and career success. 99% of the students attending GSHS participate in the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program and 9% of the students are homeless. As a public charter school, GSHS affords unique opportunities for school leadership to serve this at risk population, who typically have responsibilities that extend beyond the classroom. The flexible learning environment provides individualized help and instruction to students, allowing them to focus on their education.

Partnering with Clearinghouse on the financing of this building results in significant savings on GSHS’s facilities cost, thus resulting in more dollars directed to the classroom. CSDC is proud to support GSHS in making a tremendous impact in their community.
